Drug Smuggling Cat Escapes From Sri Lankan Prison

COLOMBO, Aug 4 (NNN-SLNEWS) – A cat, that was detained for transporting drugs into Sri Lanka’s Welikada Prison, escaped from a heavily guarded prison, days after it was caught by intelligence officers, media reports said here yesterday.

The local Aruna newspaper, quoting prison officials, said, the cat was detected by prison guards last Saturday, with nearly two grams of heroin, two SIM cards and a memory chip, found in a small plastic bag tied around its neck. Investigations found that the cat was smuggling the drugs and banned items into the Welikada Prison, located in Colombo.

The cat was thereafter detained in a room, in the Colombo Magazine Prison for further investigations, but escaped some time on Sunday, with authorities now launching a manhunt to catch the feline.

Investigators believe the cat was used as a smuggler.– NNN-SLNEWS
