Vietnamese Arrested For Transporting Illicit Drug From Laos To Vietnam

HANOI, Vietnam, Feb 12 (NNN-VNA) – A 47-year-old man from Vietnam’s central Thanh Hoa province, has been caught red-handed, transporting 10 kg of crystal methamphetamine from Laos to the province, the provincial police announced on Monday.

Local police caught Loc Van Duong on Sunday night, when he was transporting the drug to Thanh Hoa’s Quan Son district, bordering Laos. Duong confessed that a Lao citizen had hired him to transport it to Vietnam at a wage of 200 million Vietnamese dong (nearly 8,700 U.S. dollars).

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin, or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine, are punishable by death.

Making or trading 100 grams of heroin, or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces the death penalty.– NNN-VNA
