Palestinian Official Warns Of Possible Collapse Of Palestinian Authority

RAMALLAH, June 29 (NNN-PNN) – The collapse of the Palestinian Authority (PA) would “not be unlikely,” if Israel continues with its measures that are strangling the PA, “politically, as well as, financially,” a senior member of Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah Movement, warned on Sunday.

Sabri Saidam, a member of Fatah’s Central Committee, said, the Palestinian leadership has not taken a decision to dissolve the PA, that was established in accordance with an agreement and based on international guarantees.

He warned that the fall of the PA would be inevitable, as long as Israel tries “to abort the chances for peace, confiscate Palestinian lands for its settlements and prevent the people of Palestine from achieving independence and freedom.”

He urged the international community to pressure Israel, through sanctions and boycott, and recognise a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.

The Israeli government is planning to annex more than 30 percent of the West Bank, including the Jordan Valley. It also plans to impose sovereignty on several Israeli settlements in the territory.

Tension between the two sides mounted, after Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that his annexation plan will be implemented on July 1.– NNN-PNN
