PKR sticks to decision to nominate Anwar as PM candidate

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The PKR central leadership council (MPP) today finalised the decision to nominate party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the prime minister candidate for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

The meeting held this morning also concluded that PKR did not endorse the proposal to nominate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the candidate for the post.

According to a statement by the PKR MPP today, the party has taken into account the views of all parties in order to find the best way to protect the wellbeing of the people and to bring justice to all.

“PKR remains open to talks with all parties including Tun Dr Mahathir in the effort to save Malaysia and restore the people’s mandate.

“However, the party has decided not to support the proposal to nominate Tun Dr Mahathir as Prime Minister, and to maintain the PH consensus to nominate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister,” the statement said.

The issue surrounding the PH prime ministerial candidate came to a head when the coalition seemed to be dithering over the matter of late.

“PKR at the same time will continue to concentrate on and be prepared for snap general elections which may be called at any time,” the statement said.
