COVID-19: Indonesia records 39,294 positive cases, 2,198 deaths

JAKARTA, June 15 (NNN-BERNAMA) — COVID-19 positive cases in Indonesia has continued to rise, surpassing the 39,000 mark with the death toll coming to 2,198.

The Indonesian government spokesperson on COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto, said between noon yesterday and noon today, an additional 1,017 cases were recorded, with 64 fatalities.

“The positive cases now total 39,294 while 13,649 patients are still under surveillance,” he said in his daily press conference broadcast via the National Agency for Disaster Management’s (BNPB) official YouTube channel.

Achmad Yurianto said from the total positive cases, 15,123 patients have recovered.

“A total of 592 patients have recovered during the 24-hour period. We are optimistic that the virus is curable and many others will recover,” he said.

The East Java province recorded the highest death toll at 616 cases, followed by the Jakarta province (557), West Java (162), South Kalimantan (131) and others.
