Jakarta to ease PSBB implementation from tomorrow

JAKARTA, June 4  (NNN-BERNAMA) — Though the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) move in Jakarta province has been extended to the end of June, several  socio-economic activities will be allowed with the implementation of new norms and protocols starting tomorrow.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the PSBB first phase of transition until the end of June, would see among others, the reopening of houses of worship, working from office to resume, business centres and public transport service back in operation.

“All sectors must adopt the new protocols, apply the new norms, and the sectors are allowed to operate at not more than 50 per cent capacity.  In the mosques for example, attendance should only be half of the mosque capacity, and the same goes with offices, or building spaces, restaurants and eateries.

“On top of that, the one-metre social distancing rule must be maintained and face masks must be worn,” he said in a press conference broadcast via DKI Jakarta government official YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/dkijakarta, today.

He said the implementation of the PSBB first transition phase was based on the COVID-19 positive cases and death statistics in Jakarta Province which had shown a declining trend since late May and early June.

“If this first phase of the transition process is successful, we will begin the second phase of the transition in July where more socio-economic sectors will be allowed to operate, otherwise, the transition process will be stopped and we will return to the original PSBB regulations,” he said.

The sectors permitted to resume operation during the transition phase are places of worship (starting tomorrow), offices and business centres (beginning June 8), recreational parks (beginning June 21) and full operation of public transport services (from tomorrow).

Schools, higher learning institutions and entertainment centres are still barred from operating.
