On Army Day, Iranian President Commends Army’s Role In Fighting COVID-19

TEHRAN, Apr 18 (NNN-TASNIM) – Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, on Friday, praised the country’s armed forces for their helpful role in fighting the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Marking the national Army Day on Friday, Rouhani expressed his gratitude for the great assistance from the armed forces in responding to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Rouhani said, the military units are reliable backing for the nation and have always proved their remarkable role in various junctures and developments.

On Friday, Iran’s army held a parade, using medical gear instead of military hardware, amid the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The army units paraded disinfection vehicles, mobile hospitals and medical equipment to mark the national Army Day.

The parade, code-named “Guardians of Homeland, Health Assistants,” was held in small scales across the country, with the participation of top military officials observing social distancing rules.

This year, the Iranian army decided to carry out an alternative plan for the military parade, to prevent gatherings as the country is fighting COVID-19.

On Friday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Hossein Baqeri, said, the army spared no efforts to protect people’s health, amid the battle against COVID-19.

“I would like to thank all my dear comrades in the army, air defence, ground force, air and naval forces … and especially those on the front-lines of defending health,” he said.

In an address to a health service parade, Iranian Army Commander, Abdolrahim Mousavi, assured Iranians that the armed forces will keep protecting them like a “sympathetic brother.”

Mousavi said, more than 11,000 forces from the army medical division, rushed to help the health ministry personnel in efforts to contain the disease.
