Morocco Seizes 1.5 Tonnes Of Cannabis

RABAT, Mar 10 (NNN-MAP) – The Moroccan security seized 1.5 tonnes of cannabis, in the northern city of Tangier, on Monday (yesterday).

According to a statement by the Moroccan police, the banned substance was hidden in a fishing boat, at the port of the city.

The seizure follows a preliminary investigation, carried out by the judicial police of Tangier, after the seizure, on Sunday, in the same city, of 135 kg of cannabis, intended for international drug trafficking by sea, the statement said.

Security operations are still going on, to shed light on the possible ramifications of this criminal activity, locally and internationally, and arrest all potential accomplices, it added.

Despite efforts to crack down on cannabis cultivation during the past decade, Morocco remains one of the world’s largest producers of the narcotic plant, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.– NNN-MAP
