Lima Group condemns violence acts against Venezuela’s opposition leader Guaido

LIMA, March 3 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Lima Group has condemned the violence actions perpetrated by paramilitary groups against Venezuela’s opposition leader Juan Guaido and the people around him during an activity in Venezuelan city of Barquisimeto.

“The Governments of Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela, members of the Lima Group, condemn the acts of violence committed by paramilitary groups of the Nicolas Maduro dictatorship against Juan Guaido, the people who accompanied him, and members of the press covering the activity in the city of Barquisimeto, in Lara State,” the statement reads.

The Lima Group members noted that this new aggression left more than a dozen people injured, including a minor who was shot. 

“This has become a systematic pattern of human rights violations by the regime, which is why we reiterate that this situation is intolerable for the region, goes against democratic values, and does not contribute to a solution to the serious crisis the country undergoing.”

“Once again we reaffirm that free and fair presidential elections are the only mechanism to solve the crisis in Venezuela,” the States expressed.

The Lima Group is made up of the Governments of Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia, and Guaido-led Venezuela. — NNN-ANDINA
