Muhyiddin’s Maiden Speech As 8th Malaysian PM Attracts Attention

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s maiden address tonight drew the attention of Malaysians, particularly his assurance to appoint Cabinet members of calibre who have integrity and a clean track record.

Generally netizens described the speech as a ray of hope for the country’s administration and placed high expectation on the Prime Minister in restoring the people’s confidence.

Facebook user Hafizan Tok Moh said: “Alhamdulillah… Congratulations TSMY (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin). Be fair in carrying out your responsibilities and setting the nation in the right direction.”

Meanwhile another Facebook user Ibu Ida said Alhamdulillah (praise to God)..congratulations TSM for saving the situation… do your best and take care of Islam too.

Muhyiddin’s speech titled ‘An Appeal to Malaysians’ aired over all local television networks Monday, among others urged Malaysians to give him the chance to leverage his extensive experience in the political arena and government service, to steer Malaysia to new heights.

Muhyiddin also called on the people to work together to rebuild the country and restore Malaysia’s glory, besides expressing his deepest gratitude to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for all his services to the country.

Meanwhile, UMNO secretary-general Annuar Musa urged the people to give Muhyiddin an opportunity to carry out his role as prime minister.

“PM (Muhyiddin)’s speech provides comfort and a feel-good factor. The people should give the PM a chance to do his best,” he said in a tweet.

Malaysian Youth Council president Jufitri Joha meanwhile said the inaugural speech gave hope of restoring the confidence of the people who felt they had been misled by the recent political crisis.

“I hope he continues the reform of institutions as well as combat corruption and abuse of power,” he added.
