PH Wants Parliament Sitting To Resume On March 9

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (NNN-Bernama) — The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council has requested the first session of the third term of Parliament to resume on March 9 as scheduled.

The council in its statement Sunday said the request was supported by 112 members of parliament (MPs).

“This is the best opportunity to determine the support towards the prime minister and subsequently end the current political crisis,” it said.

Meanwhile, in its meeting Sunday, the council has appointed Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as its new secretary-general, to replace Saifuddin Abdullah who quit the party on Feb 24.

Sunday morning, Dr Mahathir Mohamad claimed that Muhyiddin Yassin was not the rightful prime minister as the latter did not have the majority support in the Parliament.

Dr Mahathir, the former interim Prime Minister, told a press conference that he had the majority support of 114 Members of Parliament, drawn from his coalition Pakatan Harapan, Warisan and several Independent MPs, some from his own party Bersatu.

Therefore, Dr Mahathir said his supporters would request for an urgent sitting of Parliament to gauge who has the majority.
