PLO Accuses Israel Of Seeking To Undermine Palestinian Control In Area B Of The West Bank

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Feb 23 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), accused Israel of seeking to undermine the Palestinian Authority (PA)’s control, in Area B of the West Bank.

Under the Oslo Accords, signed between the PLO and Israel in the 1990’s, the West Bank was divided into three areas: Area A under Palestinian control, Area B under joint Palestinian-Israeli control, and Area C under full Israeli control.

The PLO’s National Department to Defend Land and Resist (Israeli) Settlement, said that, for the first time since 1993, the Israeli government is taking practical measures to end the PA’s control in Area B.

“The Israeli government recently banned Palestinian construction in Area B,” said the report, referring to the decision by Israeli Defence Minister, Naftali Bennett, to ban Palestinian construction in Area B for security reason.

The report added that, Israel banned the construction of two buildings, close to the Israeli settlements of Shilo and E’ili, south of the West Bank city of Nablus, although the buildings are in an area under the PA’s control.

Israeli settlement activity is considered one of the thorniest issues that hindered peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis.– NNN-WAFA
