Palestinian Refugees All Over Lebanon Protest Against U.S. Mideast Peace Plan

BEIRUT, Jan 30 (NNN-XINHUA) – Palestinian refugees’ camps all over Lebanon, organised, on Wednesday, marches, sit-ins and general strikes, against the announced U.S. Middle East peace plan, also known as the “Deal of the Century.”

All schools belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) were closed, in addition to institutions and shops in Palestinian camps, which shut their doors down in commitment to the strike.

Protesters held Palestinian flags and maps, affirming their right to return to their homeland, while they chanted slogans that adhere to East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine and the resistance to restore legitimate rights.

Protesters in the Ain al-Hilweh camp burned U.S. and Israeli flags. Speeches were delivered during the protests, highlighting the complete rejection of the “Deal of the Century.”

Maher Shabayta, secretary of the Fatah movement in Sidon in southern Lebanon, said, the “U.S.-Israeli conspiracy will not succeed” because of the Palestinians’ rejection, and their clear position on Jerusalem.

Shakib Al-Aina, an official with the Islamic Jihad movement, assured that Palestinian resistance will continue with the aim of securing the return of Palestinians.

The number of Palestinian refugees registered with the UNRWA and the General Directorate of Political Affairs and Refugees, at the Lebanese Interior Ministry, stands at about 500,000, while the Lebanese Central Bureau of Statistics estimates that, there exist 174,422 Palestinian refugees living in 12 camps and 156 groups in Lebanon.– NNN-XINHUA
