Palestine Slams Israeli Order Keeping Top Muslim Cleric Away From Al-Aqsa Mosque

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Jan 20 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine slammed Israel for issuing a restraining order, preventing a top Muslim cleric from going to the Al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem for a week.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli decision, which orders Sheikh Ekrema Sabri, head of Palestinian Higher Islamic Council, to stay off the al-Aqsa mosque, where he is also a preacher.

According to Palestinian sources, Sabri was summoned by Israeli police in East Jerusalem, and questioned over his Friday sermon, after which he was given a restraining order and banned from going to the mosque for a week.

Al-Aqsa mosque compound, in East Jerusalem, known to the Jewish people as the Temple Mount, is sacred to both Muslims and Jews. It is considered to be one of the most volatile sites in the region.– NNN-WAFA
