Thailand Buries Overhead Cables For Public Safety, Landscape Beauty

BANGKOK, Jan 4 (NNN-TNA) – The Thai Government House Facebook page, unveiled pictures of Thailand’s key landmarks, clean from overhead cables.

The Facebook page posted the “before and after” photos of significant venues that used to have overhead cables lining up streets and over museums and temples.

“Officials have, before the end of 2019 buried 275 km stretch of overhead wires and communication cables, on 106 roads nationwide,” the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) said on Friday.

NBTC Secretary-General, Takorn Tantasith, said, the figures comprised 27 km of cables on 24 roads in Bangkok, and 248 km of cables on 82 roads in other provinces.

In Bangkok, the burying of overhead cables took place in main districts where shopping malls, offices, condominiums and government buildings are located.

In provinces outside of Bangkok, the project covered 49 km on 22 roads in the North, 71 km on 28 roads in the Northeast, 46 km on 11 roads in the Central Plains, and 82 km on 21 roads in the South.

Takorn said, for the year 2020, more burying will occur with a distance of 38 km on eight roads in Bangkok.

In the long run, the Provincial Electricity Authority will bury more wires on a combined distance of about 4,000 km nationwide.

The project was aimed at public safety and landscape beauty, he said.

In late 2018, NBTC Secretary-General, Takorn, warned all telecom and broadcasting operators to strictly lay out cable lines through power poles, in compliance with the conditions laid out by both Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority.– NNN-TNA
