Six Killed In Accident In Eastern Uganda

KAMPALA, Jan 1 (NNN-DAILY MONITOR) – Six people died on the spot and four others were injured, after a truck rammed into a building, in the eastern district of Mayuge in Uganda.

James Mubi, Busoga East police spokesperson, spoke by telephone on Tuesday, that, the accident happened after the lorry, loaded with bags of sugar, failed to brake.

“Of the dead, three were children. Those injured were rushed to nearby health centres for further management,” Mubi said.

Uganda registers about 20,000 accidents each year, with some 2,000 deaths, making it one of the countries with the highest traffic death rates, according to police statistics.

The police attributed the high rates of road accidents to reckless driving, speeding, human error, drink driving and overloading.– NNN-DAILY MONITOR
