Jordan, USAID Sign 745 Million USD Grant Deal

AMMAN, Dec 16 (NNN-PETRA) – The Jordanian government and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), on Sunday signed an agreement, under which the latter will transfer 745 million U.S. dollars in cash, as a grant to support Jordan’s economy.

The agreement was signed by Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Wissam Rabadi, and the USAID Mission Director, Jim Barnhart in Amman. It is the second cash transfer agreement, under a memorandum of understanding, signed in Feb, 2018, between the two sides.

Rabadi said, the agreement will help the government maintain macroeconomic stability, bridge part of the financing needs for 2019, as well as, in meeting some of the expenses incurred by Syrian refugees.

U.S. officials at the signing ceremony reiterated their commitment to supporting Jordan’s economy, saying, the agreement seeks to support sectors, including health, education and water.– NNN-PETRA
