Syrian Officers Encourage People To Use Newly-Opened Hasakah-Aleppo Highway

HASAKAH, Dec 12 (NNN-SANA) – The Syrian army, today, assumed control over the highway, linking the provinces of Hasakah and Aleppo.

A Syrian military officer said, the road is opened for traffic, after the full deployment of the Syrian army, stressing that, it is completely safe for travelling.

“We are now calling on people to use this road,” the officer said.

Another officer said, “We are calling on civilians to use this road, because it is in a completely safe condition, thanks to the efforts of the Syrian army.”

Muhammad Naser, a citizen travelling on the road for the first time, said that he was happy to travel to Aleppo using this road. He looks forward to the opening of more roads in the country.

Activists said, the Syrian army’s deployment comes, as part of the recent Russian-Turkish agreements.

According to the agreement, Turkey-backed rebel groups should withdraw three km from the road towards the north, and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces withdraw four km south.

The agreements and military situation in northeastern Syria came under the spotlight, since Turkey launched an assault against the Kurdish forces in Oct.

Russia stepped in and mediated agreements to end the battles and have the Syrian government forces deploy between the Kurdish forces and the Turkey-backed rebels.

The Syrian army benefited from the Russian-Turkish agreements, as it has assumed control over several key Kurdish-held areas along the border with Turkey.– NNN-SANA
