KOTA KINABALU, Dec 9 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Rhino and Forest Fund (RFF) has signed a document with the owner of a 32-hectare of land at Sungai Tabin Segama in Kinabatangan, Sandakan to convert it as a wildlife corridor and conservation area.

RFF executive director Robert Risch said the signing ceremony is the key to acknowledging the close cooperation between the Forestry Department and the RFF.

“Tabin area is key area for survival of Borneo wildlife which is isolated at the moment, so the only option to prevent further species lost is to fix habitat fragmentation,” he told reporters after the signing ceremony which was witnessed by Chief Conservator of Forests Datuk Mashor Mohd Jaini here today.

Risch said currently RFF has 65 hectares of land for conservation purpose mostly oil palm land.

He believed the survival of several species such as the Bornean Banteng could depend on the re-establishment of the habitat connectivity between Tabin and Kulamba Wildlife Reserve.
