Iraqi PM Discusses Cooperation With UN, U.S. Delegation

BAGHDAD, Nov 19 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, held two meetings with the United Nations top envoy to Iraq and the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, discussing cooperation between Iraq, the international organisation and the United States.

A statement by his media office said, Abdul Mahdi discussed with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, special representative of the UN secretary-general for Iraq, “the government’s efforts to meet the demands of the demonstrators, especially the electoral law.”

The two sides also discussed cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations, and efforts to support stability in the country, the statement said.

Also on Monday, Abdul Mahdi met with U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller and his delegation, and the two sides discussed development of relations between the two countries and joint cooperation to fight remains of the Daesh group, according to a brief statement by Abdul Mahdi’s office.

Abdul Mahdi’s meetings came, amid demonstration at the Tahrir Square and nearby al-Khalani Square, where thousands of demonstrators are demanding comprehensive reform, fight against corrupt officials, improvement of public services and job opportunities.– NNN-NINA
