Trial of former M’sian DPM Ahmad Zahid starts

The court on Monday, Nov 18, dismissed Zahid Hamidi’s application to challenge the constitutionality of MACC Act, Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001 under which he is facing charges for misappropriating millions of ringgit of Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The trial of former deputy prime minister of Malaysia Ahmad Zahid took off in a court here today.

Ahmad Zahid is facing 47 charges involving millions of ringgit of Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

In its opening statement, the Prosecution said it will prove Ahmad Zahid misappropriated RM31 million of Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

The deputy public prosecutor also said the trail of the money involved will reveal that not a single sen of the RM31 million foundation funds had been used for the benefit of the poor.

The trial will resume later this afternoon.
