Civilian Injured In Rocket Attack On Green Zone In Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Nov 18 (NNN-NINA) – Two rockets on Sunday, hit the heavily guarded Green Zone in central Baghdad, wounding a civilian, an Iraqi interior ministry source said.

The attack occurred in the evening, when one of the rockets landed on a building, housing a telecommunications company in al-Karrada district, on the eastern bank of the Tigris River, opposite the Green Zone, which houses embassies and some of the main Iraqi government offices, the source said.

The blast wounded an engineer working in the company, and caused damage to the building, the source added.

The other rocket landed inside the perimeter of the Green Zone, causing no casualties.

Meanwhile, a media office, affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, also said that, an unidentified rocket landed on a company building, in the Karrada district in Baghdad, injuring a civilian.

The media office gave no further details, but said, more information will be published later.

The attack came, amid demonstration at the Tahrir Square and nearby al-Khalani Square, where thousands of demonstrators are continuing demanding comprehensive reform, fight against corrupt officials, improvement of public services and job opportunities.– NNN-NINA
