UN warns that 22% of Haitian children suffer from malnutrition

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Oct 21 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — About 22% of Haitian children under five years are suffering from chronic malnutrition, and 4% from acute malnutrition, UNICEF reported.

The UN alert occurs in a convulsed moment for Haiti, following a consecutive months of protests calling for the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse, as well as incipient humanitarian crises in some territories of this country.

UN calls governments, private sectors, donors, fathers, families and companies to address the increasing malnutrition and help children to grow up healthy.

The international body encourage food suppliers to act in favor of minors, produce healthy, practical and affordable foods, and strictly control harmful foods.

The alarm is global, the report states that one in three children under five years worldwide is malnourished or suffers from excess weight due to bad or poor eating habits. — NNN-AGENCIES
