Brunei Sultan To Attend Indonesian President’s Inauguration

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 20 (NNN-BB NEWS) – Brunei’s Sultan, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, is to attend Indonesia’s President, Joko Widodo’s inauguration ceremony this afternoon.

The inauguration ceremony is organised by the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia.

MPR Speaker, Bambang Soesatyo, confirmed that the inauguration of President Jokowi for 2019-2024, will be attended by almost all leaders from the Asean region, as well as, Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison and Chinese Vice President, Wang Qishan.

In an interview, Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei, Dr Sujatmiko, said, the Sultan’s presence “will show a sincere commitment of friendship, to further strengthen our unity as fellow ASEAN.”

“The visit also shows a strong desire to continue to develop friendly relations and close cooperation as two neighbouring countries.

“We also perceive the presence of the Sultan as a testament to the personal closeness and warmth of cooperation between the two leaders, to inspire increased friendship and closeness between components of society between the two countries, including the business world and academia,” Dr Sujatmiko added.

“After 35 years of diplomatic relations between Brunei and Indonesia, there is still much room for increased cooperation between the two countries, such as improved relations in various sectors, including politics, defence, economy, education, social, culture, and sports.”– NNN-BB NEWS
