Brunei Records 0.8 Percent Consumer Prices Drop In Aug

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 7 (NNN-BB NEWS) – Brunei’s prices dropped by 0.8 percent in Aug this year compared to the same month in 2018, due to decreases in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and transportation, among others.

According to the latest statistics released by the Department of Economic Planning and Development, at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Aug, 2019, showed both Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Non-Food index decreased by 1.2 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.

The overall CPI decrease was largely attributed to a decrease in the prices and costs of Transport (3.5 percent); Clothing and Footwear (6.2 percent); and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (1.2 percent).

CPI is a measure of price changes of goods and services paid by the consumer in a specified period. Brunei’s list of goods and services in the CPI is based on the average expenditure per household.– NNN-BB NEWS
