NEW DELHI, Oct 4 (NNN-PTI) – Flight operations at Delhi’s ‘Indira Gandhi International Airport’ remained suspended, between 19:56 to 20:22 hours on Thursday due to heavy rains and lightening, said media reports.
People in the Indian capital city were caught unawares by the unexpected heavy rains, which lashed parts of Delhi and surrounding areas on Thursday evening, leading to water logging and traffic jams.
Over the past few days, India’s eastern state of Bihar has been witnessing heavy rains, leading to devastating floods. According to media reports, as many as 73 people have died in rains-related incidents, even as water was seen entering into houses.
Over two million people have been affected in the state, in as many as 15 districts, including Katihar, Lakhisarai, Buxar and Bhagalpur, reported state-run broadcaster, ‘All India Radio (AIR)’.
The state capital, Patna, witnessed acute water-logging. Flood situation worsened with several rivers flowing above the danger mark. The national and state disaster response teams have been engaged in rescue and relief operations in different districts of the state.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), predicted heavy rainfall in many parts of the state over the next two days.– NNN-PTI
