KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman, Datuk Seri Azman Ujang today received the Sabah Chief Scout Award, the highest scouting award from the state.

The award was presented by State Chief Scout Commissioner, Datuk Dr Awang Zaini Suntim at Wisma Bernama here.

Azman, who was active in the scout movement since his school days, was visibly moved by the recognition, which he regarded as the greatest achievement in his life.

“Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), this is a big surprise. I am deeply touched and this is the biggest honour throughout my career as a journalist.

“This is an unexpected moment, and I admit that Bernama has played a big role in spreading awareness of the scouting activities all this while,” he told reporters after the award-presentation ceremony.

Azman also said that all parties should always support the activities of scout associations in the country, which emphasised on discipline and morals.

“If more teenagers join the scout associations, I believe the social problems involving young people will be reduced due to discipline and inculcation of good values,” he added

Meanwhile, Awang Zaini, who is also the Deputy National Chief Scout Commissioner, said the award was the highest recognition from the Scout Association of Malaysia (Sabah Branch) and given to individuals who had sacrificed and contributed to the smooth running of scout activities.

“I would like to thank Datuk (Datuk Seri Azman Ujang) and Bernama for always helping to promote the scout programmes through coverage, and we hope that this support will continue,” he added.
