Marine Park Off Southern Thailand Likely To Be Named ASEAN Heritage Park

BANGKOK, Sept 14 (NNN-TNA) – A marine national park on Angthong islands, off southern Thailand, will likely be named an ASEAN heritage park later this year, a government official said.

Angthong marine park, off Surat Thani province, is an offshore tourist spot which has biological diversity and is well conserved by authorities, confirmed Piya Nunil, head official attached to the marine national park.

Officials apply modern technology in regularly patrolling in and around the marine park’s premises, in effort to conserve it, Piya said.

The marine park, on the tourist archipelago will likely be named ASEAN heritage park by the ASEAN Heritage Park Programme in upcoming Nov, he said.

Meanwhile, a campaign has been conducted to stop tourists and villagers on Koh Samui, Koh Pha-ngan and Koh Tao islands, off Surat Thani, from using plastic bags, for fear that they might otherwise become environmentally-hostile marine waste.– NNN-TNA
