PA Official Urges UN Security Council To Impose Sanctions On Israel

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Sept 12 (NNN-WAFA) – A senior Palestinian official, called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to impose sanctions on Israel, following the remarks by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Tuesday.

Netanyahu said that, he intends to annex the Jordan Valley, which accounts for nearly 30 percent of the West Bank, once he is re-elected as prime minister, in the parliamentary elections, to be held on Sept 17.

Reyad al-Malki, the minister of foreign affairs in the Palestinian Authority (PA), made the call to the UNSC, during a meeting with his Luxembourg counterpart, Jean Asselborn, in Ramallah.

“Netanyahu’s declaration is an exploitation of elections, for the purpose of deepening settlement and Judaisation in the occupied Palestinian territory,” said al-Malki.

He added, “This is a clear disregard to the resolutions of the United Nations and its institutions, and the countries that are keen to achieve peace, in accordance with the principle of a two-state solution.”

Meanwhile, Asselborn rejected Netanyahu’s remarks and considered it “unacceptable and violates international laws and resolutions.

“The declaration (of Netanyahu) is a move that shows that Netanyahu has no real intention towards a two-state solution, and will lead to the destruction and termination of the peace process in the Middle East,” said Asselborn.

He added that the Israeli government’s policy of imposing facts on the ground and harming the unarmed Palestinians is unacceptable.– NNN-WAFA
