Israeli Soldiers Critically Wound Palestinian Man Near Ramallah

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Sept 10 (NNN-WAFA) – A Palestinian young man was critically wounded on Monday, by Israeli soldiers’ gunfire, at the entrance of the West Bank city of al-Beereh, close to Ramallah, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement.

The statement said that the young man was shot by gunfire in the chest and abdomen, during clashes with Israeli soldiers and was taken to a hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Clashes erupted between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli soldiers, following a procession by Beit Zeit University students, organised to protest the death of a Palestinian prisoner in an Israeli jail.

Bassam al-Sayeh, from the northern West Bank city of Nablus, died of cancer on Sunday, while in custody, and the Palestinians held Israel responsible for his death, due to medical negligence.

Protests and rallies were organised in various West Bank cities, and before the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross, to protest the death of Sayeh and measures against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

Sayeh is the second Palestinian prisoner who died in Israeli prisons within the last couple of months. His death increases the number of Palestinian prisoners who died in Israeli prisons since 1967 to 221.

Israel is holding nearly 6,000 detainees, including about 700 sick prisoners, 37 of them in serious condition and nearly 30 with cancer.– NNN-WAFA
