Mumbai Shuts Schools As Heavy Rainfall Water-logs The City

MUMBAI, Sept 4 (NNN-PTI) – Incessant rains across Mumbai and adjoining areas have led to water-logging in the city and forecast of heavy rainfall by India Meteorological Department (IMD) has made the city’s civic body on Wednesday (today) issue an advisory to shut schools.

“In the wake of IMD’s warning of heavy rainfall for the rest of the day, the schools shall remain closed today. The Principals of the schools where students are already in, are requested to take all precautions and ensure that the children are sent back home carefully and safely,” BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, the civic governing body for the city, wrote on Twitter.

Over the past 24 hours, the city’s IMD observatory at two locations at Colaba and Santacruz witnessed 131.4 mm and 80 mm of rainfall respectively.

For the next two days, IMD indicated heavy rainfall for the city and has issued an orange alert for the city for Wednesday (today).

“IMD authorities have indicated high rainfall weather for Mumbai and other adjoining districts for the next two days. Please take adequate precautions and ensure safety,” Mumbai police wrote on Twitter.

Several parts of Mumbai were water-logged due to overnight rains and local railway trains were running late by 10-15 minutes.– NNN-PTI
