Kuwait-U.S. Summit To Discuss Gulf Tensions, Bilateral Ties

KUWAIT, Sept 4 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwaiti and U.S. leaders will discuss the Gulf tensions and bilateral ties, during a summit next week, U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait, Lawrence Silverman said.

Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who arrived in the U.S. on Monday, is scheduled to hold a summit on Sept 12, with U.S. President, Donald Trump, at the White House.

At a press conference held at the U.S. embassy in Kuwait, Silverman said, the summit will focus on bilateral ties and current developments in the region, adding that, a number of deals are due to be confirmed during the upcoming talks.

The Kuwaiti Emir’s visit to the U.S. comes, amid high tensions in the Gulf, caused by a standoff between the U.S. and Iran, as Washington heightens pressure on Tehran, by imposing suffocating sanctions, following its exit from the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal. Kuwait has pledged to make its efforts to help stabilise the region.

In addition, the two sides will address the current Gulf diplomatic row, he said, adding that, the U.S. is “disappointed” that the rift has not been healed yet.– NNN-KUNA
