MIRI, Aug 20 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s Civil Defence Force (APM) has identified an area as big as  10.52 hectares which is still covered in thick smoke due to peat fire near Tudan and Hamidah Orphanage Complex in Kuala Baram here.

Sarawak’s State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat (JPBN) in a statement said a fire investigation was carried out by air using the Bintulu APM team’s drones this morning.

“A survey of the area shows that 3.6 hectares were on fire,” it said.

APM said it will monitor the situation from time to time to ensure that the situation is under control.

The forest and peat fires in Kuala Baram have been divided into three sections. The first two sections are being taken care by firefighters and employees of a corporate company in efforts to extinguish the fires. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) Bombadier aircraft has been assisting with the firefighting in the third area since Aug 15.
