President Jokowi receives Malaysian envoy’s credentials

JAKARTA, Aug 7 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday received the credentials of 12 foreign envoys to the republic, including new Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia, Zainal Abidin Bakar.

The ceremony was held at the Istana Merdeka in Jakarta, which was also attended by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

Zainal Abidin, 58, originally from Kedah, has served in several countries prior, namely, Japan, Vietnam, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and his last position before going to Indonesia was as Malaysian ambassador to Spain.

On March 21, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah presented the instrument of appointment to Zainal Abidin as Malaysian new ambassador to Indonesia.

The post was vacant for almost a year, after former Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim ended his contract in June 2018.

During that time, deputy ambassador Zamshari Shaharan had temporarily assumed the responsibilities.
