UNDP Commends Jordan’s Role In Meeting Needs Of Syrian Refugees

AMMAN, Jordan, July 31 (NNN-PETRA) – The United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Administrator, Achim Steiner, on Tuesday, commended Jordan’s role in hosting Syrian refugees.

At a meeting in Amman with Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, Steiner said, he welcomed Jordan’s efforts to help Syrian refugees, and its role in enhancing regional security and stability.

The UN official also expressed UNDP’s keenness on further enhancing cooperation with Jordan.

The Jordanian official and Steiner looked into regional developments and their repercussions in development programmes and the exerted efforts to meet the growing needs of Syrian refugees.

Safadi briefed the UN official on challenges the kingdom is facing, as a result of hosting more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees.

He reiterated the importance for international community, to make exceptional steps, to mitigate the extraordinary circumstances facing Jordan, as a result of bearing the repercussions of the Syrian refugee influx.

The Jordanian minister underlined the need for more UN programmes, that help address the refugee crisis, to contribute to helping local communities in facing pressures from the influx.– NNN-PETRA
