37 Percent Of Arab Israelis Feel Discrimination: Survey

JERUSALEM, July 29 (NNN-MA’AN) – An Israeli annual survey released on Sunday said, 37 percent of Arab Israelis feel discriminated against.

Titled “Discrimination, affirmative action, and social status,” the 2018 social survey, published by the Central Bureau of Statistics, reveals that 27 percent of the Israeli population aged 20 and above, feel discriminated against by age, nationality, ethnic origin, skin colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability.

Besides the Arab Israelis, the feeling of discrimination is high among Ethiopian Israelis (53 percent), ultra-Orthodox Jews (40 percent), low-income people (36 percent) and singles (34 percent).

The survey also shows that, about 11 percent feel discriminated against because of their national or ethnic origin, and 10 percent because of their religion and belief.

The survey covered 7,045 people aged 20 and above, representing some 5.6 million of the nine million Israeli population.– NNN-MA’AN
