Guatemalan Gov’t to deliver more homes to people affected by volcano

GUATEMALA CITY, July 23 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — As part of the second phase of the Guatemalan government project La Dignidad, 176 families affected by the eruption of the Volcan de Fuego volcano in 2018 will receive their homes, officila sources reported Monday.

Mario Passarelli, director of the Unit for the Development of Popular Housing, said that the delivery will be made next Friday and will include the deed of the houses that are built on the La Industria farm, in the department of Escuintla.

This was one of the most affected by the eruption of the vocano on June 3 last year, as were the neighbors Chimaltenango and Sacatepetez.

This time, family members from the communities of San Miguel Los Lotes and Las Palmas will benefit, who remain in transitional shelters created shortly after the volcanic outbreak.

The houses have two bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and laundry area, as well as the possibility of building a second level.

This year the reconstruction works of the National Route 14 section, one of the areas most affected by the eruption, must also be completed.

Four bridges are currently being rebuilt and the asphalt belt in the area is replenished, tasks that the Road Conservation Executing Unit initiated in August 2018. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
