Saudi Arabia Warns Iran Of “Assaults” On Freedom Of Navigation

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, July 22 (NNN-SPA) – Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel al-Jubeir, on Sunday, warned Iran of perpetrating violations of the freedom of navigation.

Any assault on the freedom of navigation is a violation of international law. Iran must realise that its acts of intercepting ships, including most recently the British ship, are completely unacceptable, Jubeir said, in a tweet.

He called upon the world community to take actions to deter such behaviour.

British Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, said, the British-flagged ship, Stena Imperto, was seized in Omani waters in clear contravention of international law, and then forced to sail into Iran.

Tehran, however, said, the British tanker, with a crew of 23 persons, was captured after it collided with a fishing boat.– NNN-SPA
