Iraqi PM Reaffirms Support For Palestinians In Defending Rights

BAGHDAD, Iraq, July 16 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, reaffirmed his country’s support for the Palestinians, in defending their rights.

Mahdi’s remarks came, during a joint press conference, after a meeting with his Palestinian counterpart, Mohammed Ishtaye, who arrived in Baghdad earlier in the day, on an official visit aimed at boosting bilateral ties.

Mahdi told reporters that, the two sides discussed during the meeting “cooperation in various fields, including industrial, economic and commercial.”

“The issue of the Palestinian people is our cause and we stand with them firmly,” he said.

Regarding the U.S. Middle East peace plan, known as the “Deal of the Century,” the Iraqi prime minister said, it has been strongly confronted.

“Those who wanted to pass it are in doubt of the possibility of achieving it,” Mahdi noted.

For his part, Ishtaye expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s boycott of the “Deal of the Century.”

“Our Palestinian people remained steadfast on their land and did not surrender or get defeated and will not accept anything other than their right,” Ishtaye said.

Late last month, a U.S.-led two-day workshop was held in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, to discuss what Washington described as the financial component of its plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Palestinian leaders said, the gathering circumvents a political settlement, based on a two-state solution, describing it as an attempt by the U.S. government and some of its Middle East allies, to liquidate the Palestinian cause.– NNN-NINA
