MAHB hosts special airside visits for local aviation enthusiasts

PUTRAJAYA, July 13 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) continues to engage and support local aviation enthusiasts by hosting special airside visits for them to get up close with their favourite aircraft and take photographs of the metal birds following the launch of the Anjung Spotter outdoor plane observation deck at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last month.

The latest field trip that was recently held saw 10 planespotters from diverse backgrounds and photographers from media partners coming together to enjoy a day of airside adventure at KLIA.

MAHB group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, in a statement today, said the airside visit was the organisation’s way of thanking the planespotters for their continuing contribution in featuring its network of airports through their fantastic photographs.

“By exposing them to the airport operations during the field trip, we hope that they are able to better understand the airport’s role in providing seamless connectivity to everyone across the nation via its network of airports,” he said.

For the recent airside visit at KLIA, the enthusiastic group, armed with their cameras and a wide variety of lens, was taken on a joyride to all the three runways with stops in between to take shots of departing and landing aircraft. On top of that, they also had a surprise visit to Fire Station 1 operated by MAHB’s Airport Fire and Rescue Service division.

The group was not only briefed on role and responsibilities of the firefighters at the airport, they also had the opportunity to steer the Rosenbauer Panther eight-wheel drive fire crash tender that can accommodate up to 14,500 litres of fire-extinguishing agents.

The group of planespotters have joined MAHB in forming the MYElites fan club, which is an initiative by the airport operator to ensure a joyful experience for the airport community.

The club provides fun photography excursions, knowledge-sharing sessions and aviation forums to its members. So far, apart from KLIA, it has hosted its members for airside visits at Penang International Airport, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Labuan Airport, Subang Airport, Kota Bharu Airport, and Bario STOLport (Short Take-off and Landing Port).
