MONTEVIDEO, Jan 26 (NNN-TELESUR) — Uruguay began experiencing a new heatwave which will last until Jan 29 and affect all 19 departments (provinces) of the country, but not the well-known city of Punta del Este.
According to a statement from the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology, this is due to a warm air mass that will affect the region and generate “extreme temperatures.”
In that sense, it added that in the south of the Uruguayan territory, the maximum temperatures will be between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while in the north they will be more than 35 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatures throughout the country will be more than 21 degrees Celsius.
Despite this, Meteorology detailed that in the Atlantic coastal strip, due to the effect of the sea breeze, the temperatures will not reach extreme levels.
According to this, one of the places not affected by the heatwave is Punta del Este, the epicenter of social activity during the Uruguayan summer. Nor are other well-known resorts such as José Ignacio, La Paloma, Punta del Diablo, or Cabo Polonio.
In Punta del Este, highs of 28 degrees Celsius are expected for this Monday and 30 for Tuesday and Wednesday.
On the other hand, Meteorology detailed that the risk of fires in most of the territory remains very high, while in the northern zone the risk is medium and high. — NNN-TELESUR
