Brazil: At least 3 dead, many injured after tour bus overturns during heavy rains in southeastern Minas Gerais state

BRASILIA, Jan 7 (NNN-XINHUA) — At least three people died and many others were injured on Tuesday after a tour bus overturned on a highway in Brazil’s southeastern state of Minas Gerais, said the Federal Highway Police.

The accident occurred on a section of the BR-365 highway about 30 km from the municipality of Patos de Minas.

According to the state’s fire department, 52 people were aboard the bus, including two drivers and 50 passengers.

Firefighters have worked to rescue people trapped inside the remains of the vehicle, and some of the injured have been transferred to local hospitals.

Police said that it was raining heavily at the time of the accident, which could have caused the vehicle to skid before overturning. — NNN-XINHUA
