CAIRO, Jan 5 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, announced yesterday that, it has recently recovered seven smuggled artefacts from the United States.
In a statement, the ministry said, the recovered artefacts included a Ushabti statue, an amulet of the deity Set, a stone scarab, two stone human heads, a mummified falcon head, and a mummified fish.
It said, the repatriation was carried out through cooperation between the Egyptian Embassy in Washington, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, within the framework of a 2021 Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries, on the protection of cultural property.
With this latest return, Egypt adds another success to its growing roster of recoveries, part of a wider campaign to reclaim stolen heritage worldwide.
Over the past few years, Egypt has recovered tens of thousands of smuggled antiquities from different countries around the world.– NNN-MENA
