Afghan Forces Seized Over 2,356 Tonnes Of Illicit Drugs, Dismantled 517 Labs In 2025

KABUL, Jan 2 (NNN-BNA) – Afghanistan’s counter-narcotics forces, conducted 10,599 operations across the country in 2025, confiscating 2,356 tonnes of illicit drugs and dismantling 517 clandestine drug processing labs, deputy government spokesman, Hamdullah Fitrat, announced, yesterday.

The seized substances included 33.8 tonnes of hashish, 32.5 tonnes of opium, three tonnes of methamphetamine, 555 kg of heroin, 232 kg of morphine, and various precursor chemicals used in heroin production, Fitrat posted on his X account.

While not stating the number of arrests, the official emphasised that, authorities will not tolerate the production, sale, or smuggling of illegal drugs in Afghanistan.

As part of broader efforts to address drug addiction, police detained 35,228 drug users across various provinces and transferred them to rehabilitation centers for treatment, Fitrat added.
