MADRID, Dec 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) – A man in his 50’s was found dead yesterday, as two others remain missing, following torrential rains in southern Spain.
The deceased was travelling in a van near the town of Alhaurin el Grande, in the province of Malaga, when the vehicle was caught in floodwaters. His death was confirmed by the town’s mayor.
A second passenger from the van, also in his 50’s, is still missing. Local emergency services located the empty vehicle, which had been swept away by the swollen Fahala river, and left severely damaged, its roof destroyed.
Civil Guard, firefighters and civil protection agents are looking for a motorcyclist, who was swept away while attempting to cross a stream in the municipality of Illora, in the province of Granada yesterday morning.
Further intense rainfall is forecast for southern and south-western Spain today.
Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, posted a message on social platform X, thanking all emergency services “working for citizens’ safety” and urging the public to take “maximum precaution” in face of the bad weather.– NNN-AGENCIES
