Tanzania, DR Congo, UNHCR sign agreement to repatriate 86,256 refugees

DAR ES SALAAM, Dec 6 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — TANZANIA, Democratic Republic of Congo, and UNHCR have signed an agreement that outlines the plan for the repatriation of 86,256 refugees currently living in Tanzania.

The Minister for Home Affairs, George Simbachawene, represented Tanzania in an occasion also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Shabani Bihango, and the UNHCR Representative in Tanzania, Barbara Dotse, who both expressed their gratitude to Tanzania for hosting these refugees for more than thirty years.

After signing the agreement, Minister Simbachawene urged Tanzanian youth and activists to seek proper and peaceful ways to demand their rights, including through dialogue.

Speaking during the Second Tripartite Meeting involving Tanzania’s government, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the minister warned that improper ways, such as wars and violence have never been helpful.

According to the minister, seeking rights through such means should be avoided, as they lead to the loss of peace. The Democratic Republic of Congo is cited as an example, where the country has been searching for peace for over thirty years. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
