KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) – The north-east monsoon and flooding has caused some 330 million ringgit (80.2 million U.S. dollars) in damage to public infrastructure, according to the Malaysian Ministry of Works.
This is not expected to be the final amount and further damage could occur, due to adverse weather, Minister of Works, Alexander Nanta Linggi, said.
Nanta said, the ministry has a core allocation for immediate repair works, and requests for additional funds would be submitted to the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance, if overall costs exceed the existing budget.
He also noted the recent approval of a 500-million ringgit special allocation by Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, to repair flood-damaged public infrastructure in several states, as part of the government’s efforts to address the situation.
Recent floods in Malaysia have caused at least two deaths, the displacement of tens of thousands of people, and damage to agriculture and infrastructure.– NNN-BERNAMA
