KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Increased river water levels in several Malaysian states, following persistent rainfall have prompted warnings from officials yesterday, urging the public to remain vigilant.
Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, advised the public to avoid high-risk areas, stay alert to weather developments, steer clear of strong currents and follow instructions of authorities.
“I want to remind everyone to always be cautious with the river levels in your area. If you are near a river, avoid high-risk areas, especially during continuous rain,” he said in a statement.
The Irrigation and Drainage Department of Malaysia reported that rivers in several states are currently at alert, warning and danger levels.
Meanwhile, the number of those displaced by flooding nationwide stands at 23,383, with victims being housed at 275 flood relief centres, as of 10.30 p.m. local time, last night, according to the social welfare department.– NNN-BERNAMA
