Over One Million Afghan Refugees Return From Pakistan This Year: UNHCR

ISLAMABAD, Nov 29 (NNN-APP) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said yesterday that, more than one million Afghans have returned from Pakistan, so far, this year.

The refugee agency said in a statement that, it has increased its presence at border crossing points, where many returnees, including a large number of women and children “are arriving cold, exhausted and in urgent need of assistance.”

The agency and its partners are providing temporary shelters, relief items and protection services to support families upon arrival.

According to the UNHCR, the intensifying winter and sharply strained humanitarian resources are creating a growing gap between urgent needs and available support.

Without sustained and expanded assistance, the sustainability of returns from both Iran and Pakistan remains uncertain, and onward movement may become inevitable, if families cannot reintegrate.– NNN-APP
