ALMATY, Nov 27 (NNN-KNA) – Truck drivers, illegally transporting around 60 tonnes of petroleum products, were detained in two regions of Kazakhstan, the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said, yesterday.
Authorities searched the suspects’ residences and the offices of one of the companies involved, and seized about 400 tonnes of petroleum products, as well as, firearms, gas weapons, and financial and business documentation, confirming the illegal operations.
In a separate case, investigators examined the activities of a company involved in smuggling petroleum products abroad. According to preliminary data, the enterprise exported more than 30,000 tonnes of fuel worth around eight billion tenge (about 15.4 million U.S. dollars).
In October, four rail wagons, belonging to the company, were seized at a border railway checkpoint in Kazakhstan, while en route to a neighbouring country with 300 tonnes of fuel.
Pre-trial investigations are underway on all identified offenses.– NNN-KNA
